Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva

Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva:
People have been known to search their entire lives for the perfect “something”! I walked into a liquor store and happened to see this beautiful spirit sitting on a shelf behind the counter! To me, this bottle was legendary; however, now within my reach!
The First Impression: Like its younger brother, Diplomatico Reserva, this wonderful elixir is bottled in a stout decanter, topped with a pour limiter and placed in an outer container. Unlike its younger brother, the Exclusiva comes in a tall, green cardboard tube; with a depiction that resembles and old stamp. This particular presentation really captures the eye!
In The Glass: Upon pouring, this rum has a lovely deep copper hue. Decanting reveals long, slow, thin legs descending back into the glass long after the decanting has been completed!
The Smell: Here is where we talk about complexity! This is definitely one of the most complex rums I’ve tasted so far! A highly complex blend of caramel, vanilla and brown sugar with a delicate lacing of nuts and praline fudge. All of which are gently embraced in perfectly aged oak! The aging of twelve years leaves an almost indistinguishable presence of alcohol.
The Taste: The initial swelling over the tongue introduces a wonderfully warm sensation that envelops the mouth like a warm blanket on a cold day! The complexity is considerably more intense than the initial smell suggests! All I can say is that one must, and I put a lot of emphasis on the “must”’ try it to fully understand what I’m trying to say! It’s that good folks!
Alas, the Finish: A pleasant trail and a yearning for more! The most wonderful aftertaste.....yearning for more, more, more!
